The Genuine Student (GS) requirement will replace the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement as of 23 March 2024.

The Genuine Student requirement will require all applicants for a student visa to demonstrate that they are genuine students who have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily for the purpose of study.

GTE statement is a crucial part of the visa application process to demonstrate the intention to temporarily stay in Australia for studies and then return to the home country.

Following are the updated rules:

• Applicants now need to show evidence of $24,505 in savings
• IELTS Score increase from IELTS (or equivalent) 5.5 to 6.0
• Introduced a new genuine student test for all international students, which will replace the existing GTE requirement
